ROAD TRIP!

Having no class on Wednesdays is awesome. Last week Bryan and I decided that we should do something awesome for our first Wednesday off so we rented a car on Tuesday night and drove to Bratislava, Slovakia! Here we are with the red devil, as the rental car man called it. Chevy Spark... yeeeee
Bryan lived across the hall from me freshman year. If you would have told me two years ago that one day we would be renting a car and driving to Bratislava together I would have told you that you were crazy.

We left around 8pm and got into Bratislava around midnight. It was only supposed to take like 3 hours or so, but we had a few minor detours. The first problem was that we completely drove past Bratislava because we were waiting to see the Czech/ Slovakian border, and turns out there isn't one so we ended up in Austria and had to turn around. The second problem was that since we came into the city from a different way than our directions stated we had nooo idea how to find the hostel. So here we are in the middle of Bratislava at midnight on a Tuesday. There was like no one outside it was sooo creepy. Finally we found some cabbies who spoke English and they told us where to go! so grateful for them!

Here's the devil in front of the hostel in the morning.
There is this palace on a cliff in Bratislava, overlooking the city so we went up there in the morning.
And there you have it, Bratislava.

and the view looking the other way...

The plalace.

After the palace we drove about 20 minutes outside of Bratislava, I think we were technically in Austria, but we're not sure. Anyway we went to this The Devin Castle. It dates back like 1000 years and it was really awesome.

The town of Devin was soo cute!

Falling in the well.

After the Devin Castle we got on the road headed towns Wien! Why we spell it Vienna, I have no clue.
Austrain/ Slovakian border. When we drove through it the night before there are no guards out or anything during the night. Wierd.

Gassing up the Red Devil in Vienna, it cost about 1 Euro pet liter. there are 3.7 liters per gallon. The euro is worth about 1.5 usd. 1.5x3.7= about $5.55 per gallon. Thankfully the red devil got some good gas millage. Still it was pricey.

Vienna was beautiful. We weren't there for too long, but we saw this awesome church in the middle of town.
Vienna was soooo expensive! We were in the most touristy part but still, I paid .5 Euro for this pack of ketchup... that's like $.75!!! Worth it though. It's a shame that I love ketchup so far because you have to pay for ketchup packets everywhere in Europe except for the UK! not fair!

Then we got a parking ticket...

I asked one of the RAs here who spoke German what it meant and she contacted them for us and they said it's like some kind of warning I guess and they might contact the rental company. Who knows?

On our way back into Prague we got sooo lost... we missed the freeway change for the airport and just had to wing it. Thankfully we had a small map of downtown and we made it work. It just took about 1.5 hrs longer than expected.
