Hello Praha!

After months of anticipation I've finally arrived in Prague! I left on Friday evening and arrived here Saturday evening. The flights were great (Swiss Air)- I arrived safely and on time as did my luggage!

A photo out the window leaving LAX- smoky skies= great sunsets.

About to touch down in Prague!

I'm living with two of my friends from NYU and our apartment is AWESOME! We have soo much more space than I anticipated along with our own completely stocked kitched and bathroom! If only real NYU dorms were like this...
our bedroom- I'm on the top bunk!

the kitchen that gets cleaned 3 times a week by a cleaning service!!! (I'm going to be so spoiled)

So the first night the whole dorm went out to pizza. The food was OK, but everyone was happy to find that the beer was only 20Kc... The current exchange rate is about 18Kc=1USD
If you want water while you are out they will only serve it to you from a bottle and a bottle of water will run somewhere between 40-100Kc... yes it's true, the beer is cheaper than water.

Today we had our first meeting with the whole group. We took the metro about 20 minutes from our dorm to Old Town Square where NYU has two beautiful buildings. It's such an amazing location too. Walking around Prague felt like I was at Disneyland or somewhere fake! Everything was so idilic and cute!

Old Town Square... pictures don't do it justice.

After our group meeting and lunch we were split up into groups and we went on an hour long walking tour around Prague led by the RAs (all of whom are current or recent grads of Czech Universities.)

They pointed out helpful things like some English book stores, where to buy a cell phone, and other places to eat/ buy things.

Then it seemed like all of NYU went over to Vodaphone to purchase a mobile. At least the poor 2 guys working there spoke pretty decent Enlglish.

After we got phones, 4 of us wandered around the city for the next few hours. We bought a Czech phrase book, a hair dryer, and a few bagels. Then came the challenging part- finding our way home. Luckily we have excellent senses of direction and after a only a few wrong turns, we found ourselves a tram that took us right back to our apt.

The jet lag only allowed me to sleep for 4 hours last night so I'm staying in tonight to catch up on my sleep.

Until I have more to say...
Steph

  3. GREAT experience, and Prague is the largest unscathed city in Europe as it was relatively untouched in WWII!!! ENJOY!
